Introducing the Survey Module in DatuBIM

Add Manual Surveys to Your Workflow – For More Accurate As-Built Comparisons

The new Survey module in DatuBIM allows you to upload surveys - collected using tools like total stations or GNSS RTK rovers - as either a surface or a collection of points. Once uploaded, these surveys become fully integrated into your analytics workflow and can be compared with flights or design files.
Find it just between the annotation and the design modules:

Why This Matters

Drone flights are typically scheduled at set intervals, which means there may be weeks or even months between data captures. But construction work doesn’t wait - and critical areas on site often change in between flights. Manual surveys are commonly used to capture these changes, especially in specific locations such as utility trenches, structural elements, or completed sections of the road.

With the new Survey module, you can upload these local surveys into DatuBIM and immediately compare them against the project’s design files. This helps ensure that your as-made conditions stay aligned with your plans - without needing to wait for the next aerial model.

Key Use Cases

  1. Design vs. Survey: Compare final design surfaces with recently captured manual surveys to verify execution in localized areas.
  2. Progress Tracking: Include survey-based measurements as part of your overall progress tracking, especially in areas hard to capture by recent flights.
  3. QA Documentation: Support handover and quality assurance processes with frequent, high-accuracy on-ground surveys.

What You Can Do with It

  1. Upload a survey file as a surface or point collection.
  2. Select it as a data source in analytics tools.
  3. Use it in comparisons just like any flight or design.
  4. Create professional reports based on survey input.

Advantages

  1. Fills the Gap Between Flights: Keep your site data fresh and relevant by adding on-demand survey measurements.
  2. Localized Accuracy: Focus on critical areas where changes are happening – and where precision matters most.
  3. Integrated Workflow: Treat surveys just like any flight or design in your analytics and reporting tools.

Summary: Enhancing Your Workflow with the Survey Module

The Survey module brings flexibility and control to your DatuBIM workflow. By allowing you to upload local RTK-based surveys, you can close the gap between scheduled drone flights, keep your as-made data current, and support precise comparisons with your design files. Whether for QA, documentation, or tracking construction progress - surveys now work seamlessly within your existing tools.
