Introducing Surface and Road Grade Checking Reports in DatuBIM

Introducing Surface and Road Grade Checking Reports in DatuBIM

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhance your construction management experience, we are excited to introduce two new reports in DatuBIM: Surface Grade Checking and Road Grade Checking. These powerful tools are designed to provide you with high-precision grade verification, even between drone flights or when immediate data is required.

The Need for Accurate Grade Checking

In the dynamic environment of construction projects, timely and accurate grade information is crucial. Surveyors and project managers often face situations where:

  1. Immediate Data is Required: Waiting for the next scheduled drone flight isn’t always feasible when critical decisions need to be made.
  2. High Accuracy is Essential: Certain tasks demand a level of precision that surpasses standard photogrammetric models (requires designated surveying devices)

Recognizing these challenges, we’ve developed solutions that allow you to leverage ground-measured points for precise grade checking, seamlessly integrated into the DatuBIM platform.

Exploring the New Grade Checking Reports

Surface Grade Checking Report

This report compares your uploaded surveyed points against a selected surface model or design. It’s ideal for verifying elevations and slopes across any area of your project.
  1. Visual Representation:
    1. An orthophoto overlay displaying the location of each measured point.
    2. Color-coded indicators to quickly identify areas within or outside acceptable tolerances.
  2. Detailed Data:
    1. A table listing each point with its exact elevation difference compared to the reference surface.
    2. Customizable decimal precision to suit your project’s requirements.

Road Grade Checking Report

Designed specifically for road projects, this report requires a road design file that includes the centerline and stations marking.
  1. Comprehensive Analysis:
    1. Calculates the vertical deviation from the design.
    2. Calculates the horizontal deviation from the defined sections.
    3. Assesses each station along the road for precise grade verification.
  2. User-Friendly Output:
    1. Visuals showcasing the road alignment and measured points.
    2. Tables detailing the differences in elevation and alignment for each point.

Real-World Application: A Use Case

Imagine a scenario where a construction team is working on a critical section of a highway expansion project. The next drone flight is scheduled in 1 week, but immediate verification of the grading work is necessary to proceed without delays.
  1. Surveyors collect ground measurements at key points along the new road segment.
  2. They upload these points into DatuBIM and select the road design as the reference.
  3. With the Road Grade Checking Report, they quickly identify areas where the grading deviates from the design.
  4. The team can immediately address any discrepancies, ensuring the project stays on schedule and meets quality standards.

Effortless Reporting and Sharing

Generating these reports in DatuBIM is incredibly easy:
  1. Simple Process: Upload your points, configure a few settings, and let DatuBIM do the rest.
  2. Exportable Reports: Once generated, reports can be shared as a link through the platform, or exported as PDFs, making it easy to share with stakeholders.
  3. Comprehensive Content:
    1. Orthophoto Visualization: Provides a clear view of the site with measured points overlay.
    2. Data Tables: Include all relevant details such as elevation differences and horizontal/vertical distances.
Setting them up in DatuBIM is straightforward and customizable. The key difference between Surface Grade Checking and Road Grade Checking is that the latter requires a predefined road design (as explained here) and expects the measured points to follow the road design’s stations.
The set up process allows the user to:
  1. Filter measured points visually
  2. Add the measurement's start and end dates
  3. Select a surface, custom elevation, design, or road model for comparison.
  4. Apply positive or negative deviations from the selected surface.
  5. Define decimal precision
  6. Customize the report format with logos, signatures, and comments.

Enhancing Your Workflow with DatuBIM

By integrating these new grade checking reports into your workflow, you can:
  1. Increase Efficiency: Obtain immediate grade verification without waiting for drone flights.
  2. Improve Accuracy: Rely on precise measurements for critical decision-making (requires designated surveying devices).
  3. Streamline Communication: Share clear and detailed reports with your team and stakeholders.
