Manual Monument Marking as a Method of Geo-Referencing

Manual Monument Marking as a Method of Geo-Referencing

This article covers all the process of marking monuments to be used for geo-referencing.  This is needed for all flight instances that were marked as needing manual monument marking at upload time as the method of Geo-Referencing.  This method of geo-referencing can be used after the 1st flight was completed and geo-referenced with ground control points. After the upload and the  the link process are done, the site will appear as “Pending monument marking” in the site map screen left banner.

The next step here would be to open the flight by clicking on the "Pending monument marking" right on the site tab  or by opening the site and then opening the flight instance.
When the site is opened, the flight in the top banner that needs monument marking would also appear as “Pending monument marking” as shown below. In this case simply open the flight by clicking on it in the top banner.

The figure below shows that the flight is in GCP Marking step and now it is possible to start the process.  This is actually monument marking as virtual GCP's.

At this stage, you are required to mark points manually on the previous completed model.  Every point you mark appears in the left panel as a GCP that needs to be marked in images on the current flight.  As shown in the figure below 5 points were marked, and it is believed or known that these 5 points were still there when the current flight images were taken.

To try and make things more clear, here is a zoom in on each marked point.

At this point these marked point, that were imported from the previous flight, are by all means handled as GCP's.  As with regular GCP's, mark at least 3 points in at least2 images each, then press the "Check Accuracy" button to start the process of checking the accuracy and generating hints for the rest of the points.

From here the process continues exactly as regular GCP marking as explained in article Marking the Ground Control Points (GCP's) Manually,
