Automatic Design Files Synchronization to DatuBIM

Automatic Design Files Synchronization to DatuBIM

Managing design files for infrastructure projects can be a time-consuming and error-prone process, especially when dealing with long lists of designs, many of which may not be relevant to the end user, and relying on manual workflows like emailing files, access shared repositories, downloading locally, and uploading them to different platforms. With DatuBIM's new Automatic Sync feature, this challenge becomes a thing of the past.
This powerful feature allows seamless integration between DatuBIM and leading third-party design repositories such as Autodesk ACC and Autodesk BIM360. Once designers publish their work to these repositories, DatuBIM automatically synchronizes the selected files, ensuring they are instantly available to the end users on-site.

Key Benefits

  1. Streamlined Workflow: Eliminate the need for manual file transfers and version tracking.
  2. Always Up-to-Date: Automatically receive the latest published versions of design files in DatuBIM.
  3. Version History: Access previous file versions directly within DatuBIM for comparison and review.
  4. Enhanced Collaboration: Ensure field teams have immediate access to the latest designs, reducing delays and miscommunication.

Supported repositories

Currently, DatuBIM supports integrations with Autodesk repositories. However, we are actively working to expand support to platforms like Procore, OneDrive, Google Drive, and more. If your project uses a different repository, we encourage you to reach out to us to discuss potential integrations tailored to your needs.

Setup

  1. With administrator rights, open the edit site options → Site association → Project association → + Add integration and select the “Autodesk integration”. Follow on screen instructions which include the creation of an Autodesk app on your Autodesk Platform Services account and then connect it to your Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM 360 account.

  2. Once you save the integration setup in DatuBIM, wait for a few minutes and then head on to the design tab. Open the design files sync console from the top menu bar.
  3. Traverse the folders and files, select the ones you want to automatically sync.
    1. Selecting a folder will sync every current and future sub-folder and file in it. If the folder structure changes after the initial sync setup, newly added sub-folders and files will be included automatically.
    2. If no need to future sync sub-folders and files, select only the files required from within the folders to limit synchronization to the chosen files.
  4. Be sure to select the correct type of each file. That can be CAD (default) or surface. This property can be changed later but will require re-processing.

  5. Save and wait for the files to be processed.
  6. Open the “Autodesk designs repository” category → “+ Select designs to view” to track the processing status. Here you can ad-hoc view designs or save them in a category for future use.
TIP: you can create categories from folders and have all their designs be attached automatically.
TIP: Automatic synchronized files have their icon decorated with a sync icon.

  7. Another option is to mark a design file as favorite (menu → mark as favorite) and have it always on top in the favorite category. Favorite files have their icon marked in orange.

So stay connected and keep your team equipped with the latest designs effortlessly powered by DatuBIM's Automatic Sync!
